The white yarn in this cardigan is an alpaca blend, while the black yarn is 100% fine Norwegian wool. Hand wash only. 

Alpafine – superfine alpaca blend: The alpaca blend consists of 50% superfine alpaca, 28% virgin wool, and 22% polyamide. This Italian-spun blend offers exquisite softness and warmth from the superfine alpaca, balanced with the resilience and durability of virgin wool and polyamide. When combined with fine Norwegian wool, it gives the garment added depth and dimension. (Fiber diameter 21.5 micron).

Njord – fine Norwegian wool: Made from 100% fine Norwegian wool sourced from the sheep’s very first shearing, this yarn features short fibers that create a finer, softer feel. The result is a thin, lightweight yarn with a crisp look, natural crimp, and the exceptional longevity for which Norwegian wool is known. Norwegian wool is one of the world’s most animal-friendly textile fibers, as the sheep roam freely in vast mountain landscapes, grazing on natural pastures. (Fiber diameter 30.5 micron).

The pattern, known as the “Sotra rose,” is a heritage motif passed down through generations and deeply embedded in Norway’s knitting culture. The design is defined by star-like eight-petal roses set apart by diagonal lines, forming an intricate geometric expression that has stood the test of time.

The original Sotra sweater comes from the island of Sotra, west of Bergen. It was here that a distinctive variation of the eight-petal rose pattern emerged. The motif is believed to have reached the island around 1850, brought by traders and sailors from the Hardanger region. The Sotra sweater was most likely reserved for celebrations and special occasions.
